Who We Are

The Penn-Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Parish is a Word and Sacrament ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We work with Brush Creek Lutheran Church as a cooperative ministry to provide a full-time ministry to the people of our area. We would like to welcome you into our church family; and we invite you to worship the risen Lord with us and to share your gifts and talents in the ongoing work of Christ's church. Please contact our pastor if you have any questions  or need more information.

We believe and teach that Christ is truly present in the breaking of the bread and in the sharing of the cup of Holy Communion. All who are baptized and commune in their own home congregation are invited to the Table of our Lord. Gluten free wafers are available at Zion's for any who have the need.

PROJECT HOPE AND HELPING HANDS: 15 YEARS OF MAKING A DIFFERENCE

The end of 2025 marked 15 years that Project Hope and Helping Hands has been making a difference in our communities and beyond. We have touched the lives of others through partnering with 325 organizations, many of them in multiple ways over the years. Through ingatherings of some things as simple as a bar of soap, a can of soup, and crayons we have touched lives, provided dignity, or provided a warm stomach and some enjoyment. Through ingatherings of homemade dishcloths, little dresses, menstrual pads and cancer care related pillows and pockets we have provided cleanliness, dignity, safety, and a warm hug in times of pain. Through donations of pennies and dollars we have provided pigs, dug wells for clean water, purchased shoes and medication providing a livelihood, putting food on a table, ensuring safe drinking water, ensuring childrens’ education and lifesaving health care. All this and much more over the last 15 years. This is not to say Yay, Us! but to say Yay, God! By being His hands and feet and trusting that little becomes much when placed in His hands, Penn-Zion’s and now Brush Creek have been a light to our neighbors and family here at home and around the globe. If you haven’t seen the list in the Social Hall at Penn-Zion’s, check it out as it is updated each year. If you want to become more involved in these ministries, want more information or have suggestions, please talk with Gwen.

Drug Take Back Day

Drug Take Back Day

Our local Penn-Township Police Department is sponsoring a Drug Take Back Day in the Harrison City area. Partnering with the DEA as a nationwide event, our Penn Township Police Department is planning to set up at Penn-Zion’s Lutheran Church, 3417 Route 130 in Harrison City, on Saturday, April 25th
from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
People are encouraged to clean out their medicine cabinets of unused/outdated prescription narcotics, particularly habit
forming pain killers, and bring them to the drop off site for proper disposal. Please do not bring over the counter (OTC) drugs, liquids, or antibiotics.

Questions may be forwarded to Pastor Steiner.

APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH-PINWHEEL FOR PREVENTIONS

April has been designated as a month to recognize the importance of community and raising awareness and prevention of child maltreatment. We will again be participating in the Pinwheels for Prevention. Pinwheels represent childlike whimsy and lightheartedness and our vision for a world where all children grow up happy, healthy, and prepared to succeed. On Sunday, April 19th we will have a special observance as part of our service.

Learn and Grow Shopping Palooza!!!!

The children of Learn & Grow will go shopping on Saturday, April 25th to purchase items to complete “kits” for various mission projects. As the children were gifted with a generous donation to go toward their projects, we spent time discussing needs within our communities and abroad, which the children identified, and how we can help. We are making kits related to health, education, special needs activities, animals, hunger, and supporting those serving in the military. We will be meeting at Penn-Zion’s and head to Chick-fil-A for lunch to build our energy for shopping. NOTE: Parents, if you are not driving and your child requires a car booster seat, please make sure we have it and you install it in the transporting vehicle. Any questions or if you would like to support the children, please contact Gwen.

Annual Synod Assembly Friday, June 12th - Sunday, June 14th

We need a couple of volunteers from each of our congregations to represent us at this important annual meeting. If interested, please speak with Pastor Steiner ASAP as we need to get all registrations in soon. This is a good opportunity to see and experience how the wider church operates. The Annual Synod Assembly for the Southwestern PA Synod will be held with all voting members representing their congregations gathering at PennWest California University, Friday, June 12th through to Saturday afternoon, June 14th.

LUTHERAN DISASTER RESPONSE TRIP TO NORTH CAROLINA

From May 3rd through May 9th, Pastor Steiner will be leading a group of 30 people from across our Southwestern PA Synod to do Hurricane Helene Relief and Rebuilding work. Working with Lutheran Disaster Response, we will be doing clean-up, painting, hanging dry wall, debris removal…whatever is lined up for us when we arrive. The group will be staying at Lutheridge Camp and Retreat Center near Asheville and going out daily from there. There is a lot of work to be done…some estimates are several years…to help restore and rebuild this region. To help cover travel and food costs for this large group of people, members and congregations of our Synod are invited to donate gift cards or monetary donations. Gift card suggestions are for places like Home Depot, or Lowe’s, or general VISA gift cards to help purchase supplies and support the local economy in North Carolina. Penn-Zion’s Church Council has graciously donated $500.00 to this work trip, and the women from Penn-Zion’s are making a monetary donation to help with gas for traveling. Thank you! If you would like to contribute beyond what has already been done, please speak with Pastor Steiner. Any donations not used or needed on this trip will be placed in the Synod’s Lutheran Disaster Response Fund for future trips.

As always, please keep this endeavor in your prayers for safety and success.

Social Ministries and Outreach

Our Social Ministries reflect our commitment to serving others through practical, Christ‑centered outreach. Through our Clothing Drive, we collect new and gently used items to support individuals and families in need; our ongoing Food Drive helps provide essential nourishment to local households facing food insecurity; and our partnership with Samaritan’s Purse for Operation Christmas Child allows us to share God’s love globally by packing shoebox gifts filled with hope for children around the world. This section highlights how our church works together to make a meaningful impact both locally and beyond.

Christian Education

Our Christian Education ministry is dedicated to nurturing the faith of our young people through meaningful teaching, fellowship, and hands‑on experiences. Our youth group gathers regularly for Bible-based lessons, service projects, special events, and activities that help students grow in their relationship with Christ while building strong, supportive friendships. This section highlights how we guide the next generation in understanding God’s Word, living out their faith, and discovering their place within the church and the wider community.

Calendar of Events

Our Calendar of Events provides an easy way to stay connected with everything happening in the life of our church. From worship services and ministry gatherings to youth activities, special events, and community outreach opportunities, this section helps you see what’s coming up and how you can be involved.

Lutheran Church Women (LCW)

As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit.   We commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, our society and the world.
